Dr. Brent L. Lockwood
Associate Professor
Email Brent CV
Brent received a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution and a B.A. in Archaeological Anthropology from UC San Diego. He received his Ph.D. from Stanford University, where he worked in the lab of Dr. George Somero on ecological genomics and protein evolution in marine mussels. Brent was an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. Kristi Montooth at Indiana University, where he studied mechanisms of thermal tolerance in the Drosophila melanogaster embryo. Brent joined the faculty in the Department of Biology at UVM in 2014, where he continues to pursue questions at the interface of evolution, ecology, and physiology.

Emily Dombrowski
PhD Candidate
Emily received her B.S. in Marine Biology and B.A. in French and Francophone Studies from the College of Charleston in 2023. Emily is interested in the mechanisms that underlie thermal adaptation. Emily is pursuing a diverse array of projects in her dissertation, including the role of thermal adaptation in mediating marine mussel hybrid zone dynamics on the eastern coast of Australia, ecological physiology of scallops on the eastern coast of North America, and interactions between mitochondria and the microbiome in thermal responses.

Gwen Ellis
PhD Candidate
Gwen received her B.S. in Biology from the University of Washington in 2021 and was subsequently a research associate in the Maurano Lab at NYU where she investigated mechanisms of gene regulation. Gwen is interested in the roles of physiology, evolution and ecology in the spread of disease. Specifically, Gwen is investigating how frog populations in Vermont have responded to epidemics, using genomics, physiology, and modeling to characterize the factors that may contribute to amphibian population declines. Gwen is co-advised by Brent Lockwood and Nick Gotelli.
